| | I just read The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. It seems strangly famialar in themes. Does anyone know what kind of influence Catullus has had on writers and writing since his death?? | |

| | It's not just Catullus who has had an effect on people, but all of the Elegists and Hellenistic Poets. To look at it in one way, it could be seen that John Donne (for example) is very closely linked to Catullus, but then again so many poets before and since Catullus have used such similar themes that i don't think you can put it down to catullus.
Added to this is the fact that Catullus was often frowed upon because of the "raunchy-ness" such as seen at the start of poem 16 - I believe that the Penguin doesn't (or didn't) translate that line! | |
