Is geall le dia é an fear úd,
más creadmhach dom é a rá, sáraíonn an fear úd na déithe féin,
é ina shuí os do chomhair is é ag féachaint ort gach re seal,
é ag éisteacht
le do bhinngháire, rud a fhágann mise
ar easpa mothúchán: már da luaithe a fhéachaim id threo,
a Leisbia, fágtar gan siolla
im bhéal mé.
Pairilis ar mo theanga, tine mhín
ag leathadh síos mo ghéaga, mo chluasa
bodhar acu féin, mo dhá shúil agus
caille an dorchadais orthu.
An díomhaointeas, a Chatullus, an galar atá ortsa:
is é an díomhaointeas a aoibhníonn thú agus a spreagann do dhúil;
nach minic cheana a leag an díomhaointeas céanna idir ríthe
agus chathracha rafara.
In   by  Catullus.
Ille mi par esse deo videtur,
ille, si fas est, superare divos,
qui sedens adversus identidem te
spectat et audit
dulce ridentem, misero quod omnis
eripit sensus mihi: nam simul te,
Lesbia, aspexi, nihil est super mi
vocis in ore,
lingua sed torpet, tenuis sub artus
flamma demanat, sonitu suopte
tintinant aures, gemina teguntur
lumina nocte.
Otium, Catulle, tibi molestum est:
otio exsultas nimiumque gestis:
otium et reges prius et beatas
perdidit urbes.
