What bad mind drives you headfirst into my iambs, miserable little Ravidus? What god having been invoked by you not well prepares to excite a senseless brawl? Or is it in order that you may reach into the mouths of the crowd? What do you want? Do you wish to be known in any way you please? You will be, since indeed you wished to love my lover (boyfriend is argued) with/at the risk of a long punishment.

just a heads up for ap latin students, this translation is more literal than the other. there are still some words taken more freely than ap graders may like but it is definitely acceptable as a study tool.

What bad mind drives you, miserable little Ravidus,
headlong into my iambic poetry?
Which god not well-invoked prepares to
arouse an insane brawl to you?
Or to reach into the mouths of the crowd?
What do you want? Where do you choose to be famous?
You will be, since you wished to love my
loves with long punishment.
