Wouldn't it be better in the Spanish version of Carmen 109 to use the 'ustedes' (polite) form when addressing the gods? Hence:

Grandes dioses, hagan que pueda prometer verdaderamente...

(En español :

¿No sería mejor en el Carmen 109 usar la forma de 'ustedes' cuando habla con los dioses? Así...

Grandes dioses, hagan que pueda prometer verdaderamente...)

I don't speak spanish so I can't see the difference but catullo and the poetae novi used to put something o lf the spoken and usual language in their poems while trying to write in a perfect Latin ... The translation shall be the most faithful possible to the Latin test... Since he does adress to th gods you have to keep it in the translation!!!
