This is a new translation of Carmen 35 in English:

I would like you, papyrus,
to tell Caecilius, the love poet, my friend
to come to Verona, leaving
the walls of New Comum and the Larian shore
for I wish him to receive
certain thoughts of a friend of his and mine
therefore if he is wise, he will eat up the road
although a dazzling girl calls him
back a thousand times as he leaves and
flinging both arms around his neck begs that Caecilius remain.
That's the girl who, if what's reported to me is true,
now perishes through uncontrollable love:
for when she reads his
unfinished "Mistress of Dindymus", from that time fires
have been eating the marrow of the poor girl.
I forgive you, girl more learned than Sappho's
muse: for the Great Mother of Caecilius
is elegantly underway.

by Cambrinus, December 2011.

This translation replaces the following earlier translation:

I would like you papyrus
to tell Caelicus, love poet, my friend
so that he should come to Verona, he leaving
the walls of Novum Comem and the Larium shore
for I wish that he would recieve
certain thoughts belonging to a friend of his and mine
just therefore it is wise, he will eat up the road
although a dazzling girl
calls him back 1000 times as he leaves and
both hand flinging on his neck she asked that Caelicus remain.
That girl now if true reports are being announced to me
perishes in uncontrollable love:
for in which time she reads the
unfinished mistress of Dindys, for that time wretched fires
have been eating the inner marrow of the girl.
I forgive you girl, more skilled than Sappho
the muse: for the great mother is nicely
underway by Caelicus.
